Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories and Experiences of the Chinese Community continues to earn recognition for its impactful community-driven approach and dedication to sharing lived histories. We are thrilled to announce that the exhibition has recently been honored with the 2024 Governor General's History Award for Excellence in Community Programming, celebrating its exceptional contribution to public history in Canada. These accolades join our previous recognitions, including the 2024 Canadian Museum Association’s Outstanding Achievement, Audience Outreach Award, which highlights programming that excels in connecting with new audiences while deepening relationships with existing ones. The success of this exhibition would not have been possible without the collaboration and input of over 500 members of the Chinese community throughout York Region.
We are also honoured to receive the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Community Leadership, which recognizes institutions and initiatives that develop and enrich a culture of conservation in their community. This distinction further affirms the exhibition’s role in preserving and celebrating the histories of a historically marginalized community.
Furthermore, Standing in the Doorway was awarded the Archives Association of Ontario Institutional Award, recognizing the exhibition for its extraordinary use of archival material to celebrate an important, historically marginalized community while fostering intergenerational and cross-cultural connections.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Canadian Museums Association, Archives Association of Ontario, Ontario Museum Association, Governor General’s History Awards program, and the Ontario Heritage Trust for these incredible honours. We look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality, community-driven exhibitions—beginning with our upcoming Everyday Superheroes exhibition, currently open at Markham Museum.

Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories & Experiences of the Chinese Community has concluded its stay at Markham Museum. The exhibition will be travelling around the York Region with stays at:
- March 29 - August 16, 2025 - Richmond Hill Heritage Centre
